Character Analysis of Hazel Grace in The Fault in Our...

Hazel grace was remarkably negative during her cancer battle. A quote from the book is, on page 99, Hazel says â€Å"I’m like. Like. I’m like a grenade, Mom. I’m a grenade and at some point I’m going to blow up. I just want to stay away from people†¦ because there’s nothing I can do about hurting you† She was saying that she is going to die and she wants to stay away from people so they don’t end up being hurt. Hazel grace is awfully lazy, since the time she found out she has thyroid cancer. Hazel doesn’t go outside the house; she stays inside and keep reading the same book or lies on her bed. A quote from the book is, on page 1, Hazel says â€Å"†¦ I rarely left the house, spent quite a lot of time in my bed, read the same book over and over, and ate infrequently†¦Ã¢â‚¬  Hazel grace is a dynamic character because she changes throughout the story. In the beginning, Hazel doesn’t want to get close to Augustus, because she was afraid he is going to be shattered when she dies. But towards the ending, hazel finds out it doesn’t matter if you die in the middle of a relationship, it’s about the moments you spend together. A quote in the book, on page 214, â€Å"Only now that I loved a grenade did I understand the foolishness of trying to save others from my own impending fragmentation: I couldn’t unlove Augustus Waters. And I didn’t want to.† Hazel grace is incredibly sarcastic throughout the book.
